Instructions for making rose beads using the White Witch method.

The following method was developed by Ruth Ruane in 2005. Ruth used the beads to make a limited edition of the necklace that you see to the left.

Rose beads were originally made into necklaces that were handed down from mother to daughter. When the necklaces were worn against the skin the heat from the body would cause the natural oils in the beads to be released and perfume the wearer.

Apparently Pope Pius V liked the idea of rose beads very much and he decided to pass a decree banning all but the clergy from using or wearing rose beads or rosary beads as they were then called. The Pope's idea was that the heat from the hands during prayer would cause fragrance to be released to the heavens and then God would be more likely to grant prayers.

Roses are synonymous with love and the scent of roses has a beneficial effect on the heart chakra. When rose beads were originally worn by young women they were worn to allow the wearer's heart to open to love.

White Witch rose beads are made using only roses. There are no oils of rose or fragrance added of any description.
